Air Conditioning Installation

Staying comfortable in the humid summer heat requires an air conditioning unit that’s not only effective but also tailored to your home’s specific requirements. At McRoberts, we’re excited to announce that we are currently in training to offer professional installation services.

But we live in Scotland, do we really need air conditioning? We asked ourselves the very same thing and after some research we think the benefits of AirCon are pretty striking, even if we have just had one of the wettest summers on record.

Reason to Get a Home Air Conditioning

We think of air conditioners as being primarily for very hot places, spots where fans just don’t quite cut it, but they offer a lot more than bringing the temperature down. Read on for our top 3 reasons to think about installing AC in your home.

Beat the Humidity.

If this summer taught us anything it’s that humidity can make everyone pretty miserable! An air conditioning unit tackles the heat from humidity, but more importantly, the moisture it brings into your home. Periods of high humidity open the door for mould to get a foothold on your soft furnishing, clothes and even the structure of your home. With AC the air keeps moving and the damp area is sent to the outside where it can’t do any harm.

Turn the Temp up

Ready for something completely new? AC’s don’t just cool homes they can also heat them too. Modern AC’s use air heat pump technology to pump arm air into the home on chillier days. For cooler summer evenings or mild winters, switching your AC to heat rather than cool will be more than enough to stop you from turning on your radiators.

Keep allergies at bay

For those who suffer from hay fever, warmer weather can mean perfecting a balance of having the window open long enough for cooler, fresh air to come in but not too long that it makes an allergy flare up unbearable. Home air conditioning units are capable of easily filtering out pollen and dander while allowing a refreshing breeze to circulate through your home. They can also remove allergens from inside the home too. Perfect if you are one of the thousands of people that have mild allergies to your beloved pooch or cuddly cat.

How Does Air Conditioning Work?

How does air conditioning work then? Without going too much into the specifics, it works by removing warm air from your home and replacing it with cooler air.

The system uses a special chemical refrigerant that absorbs heat from inside your house and carries it to the outdoor unit, where the heat is released into the outside air. The indoor part blows cool air back into your rooms, while the outdoor unit does the hard work of getting rid of the heat.

It’s a continuous cycle that keeps your home at a comfortable temperature, with most modern systems also providing heating as well as cooling.

How Much Does Air Conditioning Cost?

The million-dollar question! We can only speak for ourselves, and as always the final price will depend on your property’s size and the system you choose. We typically use Worcester Bosch air conditioners, so to give you a ballpark figure.

A standard 12000 BTU wall-mounted split unit usually starts at around £600, with installation costs starting from approximately £1000. These figures are a guide, and you should always have a home survey carried out before progressing with any registered HVAC contractors.
